No. 1 Juniata Defeats Wilkes Women's Volleyball in Three
HUNTINGDON, PA – Defending national champion and current No. 1 Juniata College held home court over the Wilkes University women's volleyball team Saturday afternoon in Landmark Conference action inside Memorial Gym, winning 3-0 (25-9, 25-15, 25-12).
Wilkes fell to 7-11 overall and to 0-2 in the Landmark while Juniata moved to 15-0 and 4-0.
The Eagles led from start to finish in the opening set and in the second and third sets the Colonels only led by one early on.
Wilkes was led by
Alexis Reedy's (Palmyra, PA/Palmyra Area) five kills,
Alexa Cassel's (Mount Joy, PA/Lower Dauphin) seven assists and seven digs, and
Hope Ousey's (Exton, PA/Henderson) five blocks.
Sierra Hines (Wilkes-Barre, PA/Holy Redeemer) added four blocks and
Ali Yordy (Fairfield, PA/Fairfield Area) six digs.
Ava Gummer led Juniata with nine kills. Lacie Brown had 18 assists and Abbey Telesz added 14. Mia Schubert collected eight aces. Sydney Ohl and Telesz each had nine digs.
The Colonels tied the Eagles with five total blocks. Juniata led in the other team stat categories.
Wilkes continues Landmark Conference play on Tuesday night hosting Moravian University at the Marts Center with first serve scheduled for 7:00 p.m. The match will serve as the Colonels Pediatric Cancer Night.
