Wilkes Women's Ice Hockey Finishes Season Series with Loss at Utica
UTICA, N.Y. – Host No. 8 Utica University scored five unanswered goals on way to a 7-1 United Collegiate Hockey Conference (UCHC) victory over the Wilkes University women's ice hockey team Saturday afternoon to complete the season series between the two teams.
Wilkes dropped to 2-3-1 overall and 0-3-1 in UCHC play. Utica improved to 5-0-1 overall and 3-0-1 in league games.
Utica struck first scoring its first two goals of the contest just :35 seconds apart early in the first period. Wilkes responded on the power-play as
Chayce Hyndman (Mountain, ON) scored off assists from
Jordan Ferry (Bohemia, NY) and
Haylee Bouchard (Sioux Lookout, ON) at the 11:28 mark of the first. Utica would add one more tally to finish the scoring in the first with the hosts leading 3-1.
From there the Pioneers notched four unanswered goals over the final two periods including three in the second and one in the third.
Utica held a 45-23 shot advantage while garnering 28 face off wins to Wilkes' 25.
Three different Colonels saw time in goal as
Audrey Milne (London, ON) suffered the loss finishing with 20 saves.
Emma Swansburg (Shelburne, NS/Shelburne Regional) played 7:41 in net making seven stops while
Addy Olson (Naples, FL/) played the third period posting 11 saves.
Wilkes is back on home ice Friday hosting Arcadia University for a 5:00 p.m. UCHC matchup at the Toyota SportsPlex.
