Wilkes Men's Ice Hockey Takes Down No. 15 Albertus Magnus 4-1
 
WILKES-BARRE – Four different Colonels found the back of the net as the Wilkes University men's ice hockey team down No. 15 Albertus Magnus 4-1 Friday night at the Toyota SportsPlex.
 
Wilkes picked up its first win of the 2023 season in its home debut while Albertus Magnus suffered its first defeat of the year falling to 2-1.
 
Matt Carlson (Delmar, NY/) put the Colonels on the board first with a power-play goal 8:58 into the first period thanks to assists from Joe Johnson (Midland, MI/) and Daniel Nau (Wake Forest, NC).
 
The Wilkes lead extended to 2-0 midway through the second frame as Patrick Roginski (Shelby Twp., MI/) notched his first goal of the season with helpers from Nau and Cole Jungwirth (Bloomington, MN/).
 
Albertus Magnus cut the advantage in half with less than three minutes to go in the second as Caden Pattison scored on the man advantage for the Falcons.
 
Cam Lowe (Lancaster, MA/) then put the game out of reach taking a pass from Christian Blomquist (Wauwatosa, WI/) and drilling a shot one-v-one over the right shoulder of the Falcons goalie to give the Colonels a 3-1 lead with 3:50 left in the contest.
 
Billy Berry (Redding, CT) added an empty net goal with 2:17 remaining to finish off the upset victory on home ice.
 
Wilkes held a 35-34 shot advantage while the teams split the face-off circle with each securing 34 draws.
 
Jack Perna (Sykesville, MD/) recorded his first career win in net for Wilkes finishing with 33 saves.
 
The two teams complete the home-and-home series tomorrow with a 5:00 p.m. matchup in New Haven, Connecticut.
