Wilkes Women's Ice Hockey Closes Out Season Series Against No. 12 Utica
WILKES-BARRE – Visiting Utica University broke open a one goal game scoring three goals in the second period on way to a 6-1 United Collegiate Hockey Conference victory over the Wilkes University women's ice hockey team on Sunday afternoon.
Wilkes fell to 4-17-2 overall and 4-12-2 in UCHC play while Utica improved its overall mark to 20-1-2 and stand 17-0-1 in league games.
Utica notched its first goal of the game and only tally of the first period with 1:56 on the clock when Abby Lillis lofted a shot over the right shoulder of
Addy Olson (Naples, FL/) to give the Pioneers a 1-0 lead after one.
The Pioneers then scored three goals over the second twenty minutes of play including strikes at 4:05, 17:43 and 18:04 all in even strength situations.
After two more Utica goals pushed the advantage to 6-0, Wilkes used a 5-on-3 power play to score its lone goal of the game as
Abigail Barcless (Hamilton, NJ) found the back of the net off assists from
Bella Kaczorowski (Anchorage, AK) and
Abby Miller (Webster, NY/) at 16:34.
Utica outshot Wilkes 94-26 including a 62-20 advantage in shots on goal.
Addy Olson (Naples, FL/) finished with 56 saves in net for the Colonels while Maddie Esposito made 19 stops recording the victory for the Pioneers.
The Colonels conclude their regular season slate next weekend with a two-game set against Lebanon Valley College with the first puck drop coming Friday at 7:00 p.m. in Hershey, Pa.
