Wilkes Women's Ice Hockey Falls to Lebanon Valley College
HERSHEY, PA – The Wilkes University women's ice hockey team fell 4-1 to Lebanon Valley College on Friday night, taking them out of the running for a spot in United Collegiate Hockey Conference (UCHC) playoffs.
The Colonels move to 4-18-2 on the season and 4-13-2 in conference play. The Flying Dutchmen move to 11-12-1 overall and 8-10-1 in UCHC play.
Lebanon Valley was able to net one fairly early about six minutes into the first period.
Julie Patterson (Trenton, NJ/) answered back for Wilkes about five minutes later during a power-play, with assists from
Rachel Morey (Buffalo, WY/) and
Bella Kaczorowski (Anchorage, AK). The Flying Dutchmen were able to score once more before the end of the period, leading Wilkes 2-1. The Colonels had seven shots in the first period, led by Patterson and
Emma Guzdek (Amherst, NY/) each with two. Goaltender
Addy Olson (Naples, FL/) was able to earn nine saves in the period.
The Flying Dutchmen had 11 shots in the first period and goaltender Shelby Guinard made six saves.
The second period almost went scoreless, but Lebanon Valley was able to add one more to their lead, going into the third period leading Wilkes 3-1. The Colonels added seven more shots in the period led by
Emma Bresett (Davidson, NC) and
Abby Miller (Webster, NY/) each with two. Olson added 12 saves in the second period.
Lebanon Valley added 13 shots in the second period and Guinard added seven saves.
Wilkes had a power-play opportunity in the third period, but were unable to find the back of the net. Lebanon Valley was able to score once more, securing their 4-1 win over the Colonels. Wilkes had four shots in the third period, with
Anneke Bouma (Newcastle, ON),
Abigail Barcless (Hamilton, NJ), Guzdek, and Morey each earning one. Olson had seven saves in the period.
The Flying Dutchmen had eight shots in the third period and Guinard added three saves while Jordan Millam had one.
The Colonels had a total of 18 shots in the game, led by Patterson and Guzdek each with three. Five other Colonels earned two shots in the game. Olson had a total of 28 saves in the game.
Lebanon Valley had a total of 32 shots in the game. Guinard had 16 saves and Millam had one.
Wilkes was 1-2 on power-plays while Lebanon Valley was 0-2. The Colonels were 21-57 in faceoffs, with Morey winning 11 and Kaczorowski winning 10. The Flying Dutchmen won 36-57 faceoffs.
The Wilkes women's ice hockey team returns to action tomorrow at 3:30 p.m. where they will celebrate senior day at the Toyota SportsPlex and look to split the series with Lebanon Valley College to end the season.
