EDWARDSVILLE – The Wilkes University women's lacrosse team opened its 2023 season falling 18-0 to visiting Marywood University in both teams' season opener Tuesday afternoon at Schmidt Stadium.
 
Marywood built an early 7-0 lead after one quarter of play before adding four more goals in the second quarter to take a commanding 12-0 advantage at the break.
 
The Pacers continued to add to the lead scoring five more times in the third before closing out the game with one goal in the fourth and final frame.
 
Marywood outshot Wilkes 29-7 including 27 on goal. Five of Wilkes' eight attempts came on goal. Marywood took 13-of-20 draw controls in the contest.
 
Samantha Scott (Binghamton, NY/Chenango Valley) posted nine saves in net for Wilkes, while Emily Dyminski finished with five stops to record the victory for Marywood.
 
Wilkes takes to the road Saturday with a non-conference matchup at Mount Saint Mary College (NY) starting at 12:00 p.m.
