Wilkes Women's Lacrosse Falls in Home Matchup Against Manhattanville
EDWARDSVILLE – The Wilkes University women's lacrosse team fell 20-2 against the Manhattanville College Valiants in a non-conference game at Schmidt Stadium on Tuesday evening.
The Colonels move to 3-5 on the season and the Valiants remain undefeated with a 5-0 overall record.
Wilkes was able to get four shots off in the first quarter. The first shot came from
Alexis Guttilla (Staten Island, NY/St. Joseph by-the-Sea) off a free position which was saved.
Brooklyn Pedana (Pittston, PA/Pittston Area) also had a shot on a free position.
Breanne Fulling (Hyde Park, NY/Franklin D. Roosevelt) and Pedana each had a shot during the play. Goalkeeper
Samantha Scott (Binghamton, NY/Chenango Valley) made three saves on 10 shots on goal.
Manhattanville had seven goals in the first quarter.
Fulling was able to score a goal for the Colonels in the second quarter coming straight from a clear out of the defensive end.
Maleah Cobham (Westbury, NY/W.T. Clarke) had one shot for Wilkes in the quarter. Scott added three saves on eight shots on goal.
The Valiants had five goals in the second quarter.
Junior Syndey Bernardi was able to net the second goal of the game for Wilkes with just over two minutes left in the third quarter.
Caitlin McDonough (Exeter, PA/Wyoming Area) and Fulling each had a shot in the quarter. Scott added six saves on eight shots on goal.
Manhattanville had two goals in the third quarter.
The Colonels had four shots in the fourth quarter with one each from Fulling, Pedana,
Sam Mullen (Dover, PA/York Catholic), and
Emilee Magill (North Prairie, WI/Kettle Moraine Global). Scott finished out the quarter adding three saves on nine shots on goal.
The Valiants had six goals in the fourth quarter.
Wilkes had a total of 13 shots in the game with 10 of them being on goal. Fulling had the most shots in the game for the Colonels with four, followed by Pedana with three. The Colonels had a total of 16 ground balls with Scott leading with six,
Taylor Quackenbush (Rockaway, NJ/Morris Hills) with four, and
Carley Yuhas (Wyoming, PA/Wyoming Area) with two.
Manhattanville had 45 shots in the game with 35 on goal, and a total of 26 ground balls.
The Colonels had three caused turnovers in the game with
Bianka Melendez (New Oxford, PA/New Oxford), Fulling, and Pedana each with one. Wilkes was 4-21 on clears and earned seven draw controls.
The Valiants had five caused turnovers in the game, were 13-13 on clears, and earned 18 draw controls.
The Wilkes women's lacrosse team returns to action on Saturday when they travel to Bryn Athyn, Pa. to take on Bryn Athyn College for a 1:00 p.m. non-conference contest.
