Wilkes Women's Lacrosse Falls 11-8 to Ferrum in Myrtle Beach
MYRTLE BEACH, SC – Ferrum College outscored the Wilkes University women's lacrosse team 4-2 over the final 16 minutes of the game on way to an 11-8 non-conference victory over the Colonels in a neutral site game played in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.
Wilkes fell to 2-3 on the season following the loss while Ferrum improved to 3-2 on the year.
Sydney Bernardi (Schenectady, NY/Schenectady) gave Wilkes a 2-1 lead after one quarter scoring twice in the opening frame at 13:53 and :01 respectively.
Brooklyn Pedana (Pittston, PA/Pittston Area) added the assist on the second goal.
Ferrum tied the game at 3-3 at the half with Wilkes' lone second quarter goal coming from
Breanne Fulling (Hyde Park, NY/Franklin D. Roosevelt) at 11:58.
The Colonels stormed out to take a 6-3 advantage to start the third quarter as Pedana, Fulling and
Abby Miller (Webster, NY/Webster Thomas) scored back-to-back-to-back at 13:26, 13:08 and 12:41. Ferrum responded with four unanswered goals over the next nine minutes of the frame to take back the lead up 7-6 with 3:11 left in the third.
Alexis Guttilla (Staten Island, NY/St. Joseph by-the-Sea) scored Wilkes' fourth goal of the quarter at 2:03 tying the game at 7-7 before Ferrum grabbed the advantage back with :32 leading 8-7 after three.
Ferrum then went on to score three more goals over the final 15 minutes of play to seal the three-point non-league victory.
Caitlin McDonough (Exeter, PA/Wyoming Area) notched the lone Colonels goal in the fourth unassisted at 6:46.
Samantha Scott (Binghamton, NY/Chenango Valley) suffered the loss in goal for Wilkes while Faith Chubbuck recorded the win in net for Ferrum.
Wilkes closes out its spring break trip Wednesday with a 1:00 p.m. matchup against North Carolina Wesleyan College before returning home.
