Wilkes Softball Sweeps Pair of Games on Day Three of Spring Break Trip

MYRTLE BEACH, SC – The Wilkes University softball team swept a pair of games posting a 13-0 win in five innings against Penn State Mont Alto before cruising to a 22-3 five-inning victory over Elms College Wednesday on day three of the Colonels spring break trip.

Wilkes pushed its win streak to five games standing 5-1 overall on the season.

In the 13-0 win against PSU Mont Alto, first-year Lauren DeMarco (Merrick, NY/Sanford H. Calhoun) was the difference in the circle recording the five-inning shutout victory allowing just four hits while striking out eight.

After taking a 7-0 lead after two innings of play, Wilkes plated six runs in the third as Olivia Dougher (Scranton, PA/West Scranton), Nicole Howell (Tunkhannock, PA/Tunkhannock Area), Nicole O'Rourke (Staten Island, NY/Susan E Wagner) and Hope Mullins (Midland, VA/Liberty) each posted RBI hits in the big inning.

Five different Colonels recorded multiple hits including Howell, AJ Bryfogle (Easton, PA/Easton Area), Hana Cross (South Brunswick, NJ/South Brunswick), Dougher and Mullins.

Howell provided all the offensive firepower for Wilkes in the 22-3 win over Elms finishing 3-for-3 with four RBIs. Wilkes scored at least four runs in every inning at the plate including back-to-back seven spots in the second and third frames.

Sami Hendershott (Wayne, N.J./Wayne Valley) picked up the win in the circle pitching all five innings allowing six hits and three runs while striking out five with no walks.
