Wilkes Women's Lacrosse Drops MAC Freedom Match 22-9 Against Lycoming
EDWARDSVILLE – The Wilkes University women's lacrosse team dropped 22-9 in a Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom (MAC Freedom) match against the Lycoming College Warriors on Wednesday night.
The Colonels move to 3-10 on the season and 0-4 in conference play. The Warriors improve to 7-4 overall and 3-0 in the MAC Freedom.
Within the first five minutes of the first quarter, the Colonels took a 2-0 lead over the Warriors after goals from
Brooklyn Pedana (Pittston, PA/Pittston Area) and
Sam Mullen (Dover, PA/York Catholic). Lycoming was quick to answer back and scored eight straight goals that went unanswered, giving them an 8-2 lead over Wilkes at the end of the quarter. The Colonels had a total of eight shots in the quarter and goalkeeper
Samantha Scott (Binghamton, NY/Chenango Valley) had three saves on 11 shots on goal.
Lycoming had 12 shots in the first quarter and goalkeeper Zoe Stauffer had four saves on six shots on goal.
The second quarter was very evenly played with both teams having nine shots in the quarter and six on goal. Lycoming kicked off the quarter scoring the first two goals, then
Caitlin McDonough (Exeter, PA/Wyoming Area) found the net for Wilkes bringing the score to 10-3 with the Colonels trailing. The Warriors went on to score once more before the end of the quarter leading Wilkes 11-3 at half. Scott added three saves on six shots on goal in the second quarter.
Stauffer added five saves on six shots on goal for the Warriors.
The Colonels out-shot the Warriors 9-6 in the third quarter but scored four goals compared to Lycoming's five. Again, the Warriors kicked off the scoring with back-to-back goals, one of them a man-down, bringing their lead over the Colonels to 13-3. Mullen and
Breanne Fulling (Hyde Park, NY/Franklin D. Roosevelt) had an answer for Lycoming as they scored back-to-back. The Warriors scored back-to-back again and then the Colonels did as well after goals from Fulling and Pedana. Lycoming scored one more time with 38 seconds left in the quarter, leading Wilkes 16-7 at the end of the third. Scott added one save on six shots on goal in the quarter.
Lycoming had six shots in the quarter and Stauffer added two saves on six shots on goal.
The Warriors drove home their victory over the Colonels in the fourth quarter after scoring six goals, ending the game 22-9. Fulling had the first goal of the quarter for Wilkes just less than 30 seconds in. The Colonels were able to score once more in the quarter with Pedana finding the net. Wilkes had four shots in the quarter and Scott had two saves on eight shots on goal.
The Warriors had nine shots in the fourth quarter and Stauffer had two saves on four shots on goal.
Wilkes had a total of 30 shots in the game, led by Fulling with 10, Pedana with seven, and
Maleah Cobham (Westbury, NY/W.T. Clarke) with five. Scott had a total of nine saves on 31 shots on goal. Lycoming had a total of 36 shots in the game and Stauffer had a total of 13 saves on 22 shots on goal.
The Colonels were 13-17 on clears and earned 12 draw controls with four from Cobham and three from McDonough. The Warriors were 17-19 on clears and earned a total of 22 draw controls.
Wilkes earned 13 ground balls in the game with three from
Carley Yuhas (Wyoming, PA/Wyoming Area) and two from Scott. The Colonels earned four caused turnovers in the game with three from Yuhas and one from
Abby Miller (Webster, NY/Webster Thomas). Lycoming had a total of 12 ground balls and eight caused turnovers.
The Wilkes women's lacrosse team returns to action on April 19 when they travel to Dallas, Pa. to take on Misericordia University for another MAC Freedom contest at 7:00 p.m.
