Wilkes Baseball Hits Six Doubles in 15-6 Loss at Cabrini
RADNOR, PA – The Wilkes University baseball team hit six doubles but were hurt by five errors during a 15-6 non-conference loss at Cabrini University Friday afternoon at Cabrini-Carroll Baseball Field. The six doubles were the second most for the Colonels in a game this season and Wilkes totaled 11 hits.
Wilkes dropped its overall record to 14-21 with the loss while Cabrini improved to 19-12 overall.
The Colonels took the 1-0 lead in the top of the first with back-to-back doubles by
Darren Kerdesky (Dallas, PA/Dallas) and
Mike Show (Clarks Summit, PA/Abington Heights).
The Cavaliers would take the lead in the bottom of the first with four runs on three hits and one error. In the second inning Cabrini added two runs on two hits to lead 6-1. Then the hosts added four runs on three hits and three errors in the third inning to increase their lead to 10-1.
The lead extended to 14-1 as Cabrini scored four runs on six hits and one error in the sixth.
The Colonels got back on the scoreboard in the top of the eighth inning.
Loch Williams (Elkton, MD/Tome) reached on an error then moved to second on an
Adam Grundt (Archbald, PA/Valley View) single down the right field line.
Devin Markert (Pittston, PA/Pittston Area) then doubled to left field to bring in Williams.
Evan Melberger (West Pittston, PA/Wyoming Area) followed with a walk to load the bases and then
Ryan Johnston (Garden City, NY/Chaminade) hit a bases clearing double to left field to make it 14-5. After two groundouts
AJ Brosious (Laurys Station, PA/Allentown Central Catholic) doubled to left field to bring Johnston in and make the score 14-6.
Cabrini added a run on a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the eighth for the 15-6 final score.
Markert finished 2-for-2 with an RBI and Show was 2-for-3 with an RBI. Johnston was 1-for-2 with three RBI's and Brosious was 1-for-2 with one RBI.
Aiden Murphy (Mountain Top, PA/Wyoming Seminary) (4-3) started for Wilkes and took the loss as he went 2.0 innings allowing six runs (two earned) on five hits with three walks and three strikeouts.
Tony Molitoris (Hanover Twp., PA/Holy Redeemer) went the next 4.0 innings allowing eight runs (seven earned) on 10 hits with three strikeouts.
Sawyer Kemp (Nescopeck, PA/Berwick) pitched one scoreless inning allowing one walk and
Braydon Wuestner (Gales Ferry, CT/Ledyard) pitched one inning allowing one run on one hit and two walks and one strikeout.
Jordan Silvestri (6-1) started and earned the win as he went 6.0 innings allowing one run on five hits with three strikeouts for Cabrini. Jaden Dickerson was 5-for-6 with five RBI's to lead the Cavaliers at the plate.
Wilkes is idle this weekend before returning to action on Monday at Keystone College for a non-conference game starting at 3:30 p.m.
