Wilkes Women's Lacrosse Drops MAC Freedom Match to FDU
 
EDWARDSVILLE – The Wilkes University women's lacrosse team fell 24-8 to the FDU-Florham Devils in Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom (MAC Freedom) action on Saturday afternoon.
 
The Colonels fall to 3-12 on the season and 0-6 in conference play. The Devils move to 8-7 overall and 6-1 in the MAC Freedom.
 
The first quarter was high scoring with FDU earning eight goals and Wilkes earning four. Caitlin McDonough (Exeter, PA/Wyoming Area) had two as well as an assist off Maleah Cobham's (Westbury, NY/W.T. Clarke) goal, followed by an unassisted goal from Sydney Bernardi (Schenectady, NY/Schenectady). The Colonels had seven shots in the first quarter and goalkeeper Samantha Scott (Binghamton, NY/Chenango Valley) had four saves on 12 shots on goal.
 
The Devils had 15 shots in the first quarter and zero saves on four shots on goal.
 
The second quarter was also high scoring with FDU scoring nine and Wilkes scoring three, bringing the Devils to a 17-7 lead over the Colonels at halftime. Breanne Fulling (Hyde Park, NY/Franklin D. Roosevelt) scored the first goal of the quarter a little over one minute in. McDonough tallied her third goal of the day and Sam Mullen (Dover, PA/York Catholic) notched a goal as well. Wilkes had three shots in the second quarter and Scott had three saves on 12 shots on goal.
 
FDU had 15 shots in the second quarter and zero saves on three shots on goal.
 
The Devils dominated the third quarter scoring four unanswered goals bringing their lead over the Colonels to 21-7. Wilkes had two shots in the third quarter and Scott earned three saves on seven shots on goal.
 
The Devils had 10 shots in the third quarter and zero saves on zero shots on goal.
 
Wilkes was able to score once more in the fourth quarter with the goal from Alexis Guttilla (Staten Island, NY/St. Joseph by-the-Sea), but FDU scored three to secure their 24-8 victory over the Colonels. Wilkes had four shots in the quarter and Scott had one save on four shots on goal.
 
FDU had five shots in the fourth quarter, and one save on two shots on goal.
 
The Colonels had a total of 16 shots in the game led by McDonough and Fulling, each with five. Scott had a total of 11 saves on 35 shots on goal. The Devils had a total of 45 shots in the game and one save on nine shots on goal.
 
Wilkes was 11-12 on clears and earned six draw controls with McDonough, Cobham, Fulling, and Brooklyn Pedana (Pittston, PA/Pittston Area) each earning one. FDU was 7-8 on clears and earned 28 draw controls.
 
The Colonels had a total of 11 ground balls in the game led by Cobham, Scott, Carley Yuhas (Wyoming, PA/Wyoming Area), and Abby Miller (Webster, NY/Webster Thomas) each with two. The Devils had 16 ground balls in the game.
 
The Wilkes women's lacrosse team returns to action on Wednesday when they travel to Center Valley, Pa. to take on DeSales University at 6:00 p.m. for a MAC Freedom contest.
