Wilkes Women's Lacrosse Downed by DeSales

CENTRAL VALLEY, PA – The Wilkes women's lacrosse team traveled on the road where they would fall to DeSales University 18-8 in Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom (MAC Freedom) competition in Wednesday afternoon action.

The Colonels would drop to 3-13 this season and 0-7 in conference play. The Bulldogs improve to 6-10 on the year and 3-4 in MAC Freedom action.

The game would begin with Wilkes jumping out to an early 2-0 lead within the first four minutes. Breanne Fulling (Hyde Park, NY/Franklin D. Roosevelt) would score at the 12:31 mark while Sam Mullen (Dover, PA/York Catholic) found the back of the net at the 11:05 mark to get ahead of DeSales. The Bulldogs would respond with four goals throughout the rest of the first quarter to go up 4-2 heading into the second. DeSales had 10 shots while WIlkes only had three.

The Bulldogs would keep their attack going as they scored three more goals within the first four minutes to go up 7-2. Caitlin McDonough (Exeter, PA/Wyoming Area) would respond with a goal at the 7:14 mark to stop DeSales' attack and, along with Brooklyn Pedana (Pittston, PA/Pittston Area) scoring at 5:30, would cut the Bulldogs lead to 7-4. DeSales would tack on three more goals before going into the break up 10-4. DeSales shot 10 shots in the second while Wilkes had five throughout the period.

DeSales would add three more goals in the third before McDonough gets her second goal in the game to make it 13-5. The Bulldogs would put two more up to go into the final quarter up 15-5. DeSales outshot Wilkes 9-3.

The fourth quarter would see both teams each score three goals. DeSales would get a goal 15 seconds into the last period. Pedana would answer at the 8:31 mark. Another Bulldogs goal would get it back to a 11 point difference, but Maleah Cobham (Westbury, NY/W.T. Clarke) would find the back of the net at the 5:39 mark to make it 17-7. DeSales would get one more goal with 3:31 to go in the game to go up 18-7. Mullen would find the net with nine seconds left, but DeSales would come away with a 18-8 win.

The Bulldogs had 36 shots in the game compared to Wilkes 18. DeSales was a perfect 14-14 in clears while the Colonels converted 15-19 clears.

McDonough, Mullen, and Pedana all had two goals while Cobham and Fulling each had one apiece. Mullen also had an assist on the night. Pedana had three ground balls while Cobham and Fulling won two draw controls.

Samantha Scott (Binghamton, NY/Chenango Valley) had 8 saves on the night for Wilkes. Michaela Regan had five saves in the win for DeSales. Nicole Minelli had two saves during her time in the net for the Bulldogs.

Wilkes will return to Schmidt Stadium to conclude their regular season against MAC Freedom opponent and cross-town rival King's College on Saturday, April 29 at 1:00 p.m. where the Colonels will honor the seniors on Senior Day.
