Wilkes Women's Lacrosse Downed by No. 25 Stevens
HOBOKEN, NJ – The Wilkes University women's lacrosse team fell 21-0 to the No. 25 Stevens University Ducks in Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom (MAC Freedom) action on Wednesday night.
The Colonels fall to 3-9 overall and 0-3 in conference play. The Ducks move to 10-1 on the season and 3-0 in the MAC Freedom.
In the first quarter, Wilkes was able to get off three shots, two came from
Breanne Fulling (Hyde Park, NY/Franklin D. Roosevelt) and one came from
Brooklyn Pedana (Pittston, PA/Pittston Area). Goalkeeper
Samantha Scott (Binghamton, NY/Chenango Valley) had zero saves on nine shots on goal.
Stevens scored nine goals in the first quarter and goalkeeper Lauren Cunniff had two saves on two shots on goal.
The Colonels had no shots in the second quarter and Scott recorded zero saves on four shots on goal.
The Ducks scored four goals in the second quarter and Cunniff had no saves on no shots on goal.
Wilkes recorded three shots in the third quarter, two of which came from Pedana with one of them on a free position. The other shot in the quarter came from
Caitlin McDonough (Exeter, PA/Wyoming Area). Scott had one save on six shots on goal.
Stevens scored five goals in the third quarter and goalkeeper Emma Guzowki had no saves on no shots on goal.
In the fourth quarter, the Colonels had two shots.
Abby Miller (Webster, NY/Webster Thomas) got a shot off after a free position for the Colonels and McDonough also had a shot.
Emma Swansburg (Shelburne, NS/Shelburne Regional) took the net for Wilkes in the last quarter earning two saves on five shots on goal.
The Ducks scored three goals in the fourth quarter and goalkeeper Felicity Heilferty had no saves on no shots on goal.
Wilkes had a total of eight shots in the game led by Fulling with three and Pedana and McDonough each with two. Stevens had a total of 28 shots in the game.
The Colonels were 7-12 on clears and won a total of eight draw controls led by Fulling with three and
Carley Yuhas (Wyoming, PA/Wyoming Area) with two. The Ducks were 18-18 on clears and won a total of 17 draw controls.
Wilkes had a total of seven ground balls in the game led by
Amber DeJonge (Grands Rapids, MI/Forest Hills Eastern) with two. Stevens had a total of 17 ground balls in the game.
The Wilkes women's lacrosse team returns to action on April 12 when they host Lycoming College for another MAC Freedom matchup at 7:00 p.m.
