Wilkes Men's Tennis Falls in Close Matchup with Arcadia
EDWARDSVILLE – The Wilkes University men's tennis team would finish a close match with the Knights, as they would fall to Arcadia University 5-4 in Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom (MAC Freedom) action on Wednesday afternoon at the Ralston Athletic Complex.
The Colonels would fall to 0-6 on the year, going 0-3 in conference action. The Knights would improve to 2-3 this season while earning their first MAC Freedom win to go 1-2 in the conference.
Wilkes would secure four of the six individual matches. Nathanial Rathe (Lincoln, NE/Lincoln Southeast) would earn 6-2, 6-2 wins in the No.1 slot while Connor Frey (Binghamton, NY/Chenango Valley) would also earn a 6-4, 6-2 victories in the No.2 position. Donovan Zong (Bethlehem, PA/Salisbury Township) would win 6-1, 6-4 at the No.3 slot, with Drew Fiedler (Stroudsburg, PA/Stroudsburg) falling in the first set 6-2 but coming back to take the last two sets 6-3, 10-7 to earn a win in the No.5 position.
Wilkes would however fall in all three doubles matches, giving Arcadia enough victories to pass the Colonels 5-4 on the day.
Wilkes will return to action on Wednesday at the Ralston Athletic Complex when they host cross town rival King's College in MAC Freedom competition that begins at 4:00 p.m.
