Wilkes Women's Soccer Drops Tough 1-0 Decision to PSU Berks in Season Opener
EDWARDSVILLE – Maya Dolan scored the game-winning goal ten minutes into the second half to break open a tightly contested match pushing visiting Penn State Berks over the Wilkes University women's soccer team 1-0 in both teams season opener Friday night at Bruggeworth Field.
Wilkes controlled most of the first 45 minutes of play having several good scoring opportunities at goal only to finish the half at a scoreless tie.
From there Dolan secured a loose ball in front of the box and deposited a shot past the Colonels keeper to give the Nittany Lions a 1-0 lead at the 54:17 mark of the second half.
Wilkes made one last push in the final four minutes of the match, but were unable to find the equalizer.
The Colonels held a slim 11-10 shot advantage while garnering six corner kick attempts to Penn State Berks' four attempts.
Hannah Landis (Red Hill, PA/Upper Perkiomen) finished with seven saves in net for the Colonels.
Wilkes is back in action Wednesday with its first road trip at in non-conference action at William Patterson University at 7:00 p.m.
