Wilkes Field Hockey Controls Play in 7-0 Shutout of Wells
EDWARDSVILLE – The Wilkes University field hockey team got goals from five different players including two each by
Morgan Hermanofski (Shickshinny, PA/Northwest Area) and
Olivia Gayoski (Forty Fort, PA/Wyoming Valley West) on way to a 7-0 shutout victory over visiting Wells College on Sunday afternoon in a non-conference game at Schmidt Stadium.
Wilkes improved to 2-1 on the season while Wells dropped to 0-3.
Bridget Rosenfeld (Massapequa, NY/Massapequa) opened the scoring 7:18 into the first quarter as she scored her first goal of the season.
Morgan Millard (Bloomsburg, PA/Bloomsburg Area) assisted on the goal.
The Colonels broke the game open in the second quarter with four goals. Hermanofski scored 24 seconds apart at 16:27 and 16:51 to make the game 3-0. For the first-year player it was her second and third goals of the season.
Caitlin Keim (Trevorton, PA/Line Mountain) assisted on Hermanofski's second goal. Gayoski then added two goals in a row at the 20:46 and 21:12 mark for her first goals of the year. Millard assisted on both goals to make it 5-0 before halftime.
Devon Donley (Dauphin, PA/Bishop McDevitt) scored her first career goal to open the third quarter as she found the back of the cage following a pass in front by Rosenfeld at the 31:42 mark.
Cortney Keim (Trevorton, PA/Line Mountain) then scored her first goal as a Colonel to close the scoring in the game at the 34:44 mark as Rosenfeld again assisted after her initial shot was saved.
Hermanofski and Gayoski finished with four points on two goals, while Rosenfeld (one goal, two assists) and Millard (three assists) had three-point games.
Carly Eidle (East Greenville, PA/Upper Perkiomen) made one save to earn the shutout victory for the Colonels.
Sadie Combs made 11 saves for the Express.
Wilkes outshot Wells 29-1 overall and 19-1 in shots-on-goal and the Colonels had 11 penalty corners compared to 0 for the Express.
The Colonels return to action on Tuesday when they travel to Aston, Pa. to face Neumann University in non-conference action at 4:00 p.m.
