Wilkes Women's Soccer Settles for 2-2 Tie Against Cross-Town Rival King's
EDWARDSVILLE – The Wilkes University women's soccer team raced out to a one goal lead only to fall behind by one goal midway through the second half before tying the game and settling for a 2-2 draw against cross-town rival King's College Wednesday night in non-conference action at Bruggeworth Field.
Wilkes saw its overall record move to 0-2-2 while King's stands 1-2-1 on the year following the road tie.
Wilkes pushed the tempo earlier with several good chances on the attacking end before
Jess Shea (Somerset, NJ/Franklin) notched her first collegiate goal at the 16:44 mark of the first half thanks to an assist from
Aliah Balch (Paupack, PA/Wallenpaupack Area).
The Colonels kept the one-goal advantage throughout the rest of the first half taking the lead to the break.
King's responded early in the second half as Liz Porto scored the game tying goal at 52:36 before adding her second of the match at 62:57 to give the Monarchs their first lead.
Erin Edwards (East Greenville, PA/Upper Perkiomen) wasted little time knotting the match up at two rocketing in a shot off an assist from
Cesia Diaz (Belleville, NJ/Belleville) at 64:22 for her first career goal.
The final twenty minutes were fast and furious including five yellow cards in total but neither team was able to muster the game-winning tally.
Wilkes outshot King's 17-11 including a 14-6 advantage in the second half. The Colonels also garnered five corner kick attempts to King's four.
Hannah Landis (Red Hill, PA/Upper Perkiomen) finished with six saves in goal for Wilkes while Aspen Wallin stopped two shots for the Monarchs.
Wilkes continues its home stand on Saturday hosting Widener University at 3:30 p.m. at Bruggeworth Field.
