Carlson's Overtime Goal Sends Wilkes Men's Ice Hockey Past Arcadia 3-2

Matt Carlson (Delmar, NY/) scored the overtime game-winner on the power play as the Wilkes University men's ice hockey team returned from winter break to defeat Arcadia University 3-2 at the Hatfield Ice Arena on Friday afternoon in United Collegiate Hockey Conference (UCHC) action.
Wilkes improved to 10-4-0 overall and 8-3-0 in the UCHC, earning two points in the standings. Arcadia dropped to 5-8-2 overall and 1-7-2 in the league, earning one UCHC point with the overtime loss.
Billy Berry (Redding, CT) notched the game's first goal as he scored 7:24 into the first period on the power play for his eighth goal of the season. Berry put away a rebound off a shot from
Cole Jungwirth (Bloomington, MN/) from the point as
Nick Swain (Jackson, NJ) also deflected.
The Knights tied the game at 1-1 with a goal by Brendan Dicker 5:10 into the second period.
A Dylan Florit goal gave Arcadia a 2-1 lead at the 6:33 mark of the third period.
Patrick Roginski (Shelby Twp., MI/) answered on the power play as he fired a one-time slap shot past the goaltender to tie the score at 2-2 at the 10:08 mark of the third. Jungwirth and
Cam Lowe (Lancaster, MA/) picked up assists on Roginski's fifth of the year.
The two sides battled for the remainder of regulation with the game going to a five-minute 3-on-3 overtime period.
Arcadia took a hooking penalty at the 2:14 mark of the overtime to put Wilkes on a 4-on-3 power play and the Colonels put the game away with 1:12 left in the extra time with their third man advantage goal of the game. Carlson netted the wrist shot winner for his seventh goal of the season with assists coming from
Joe Johnson (Midland, MI/) and Roginski. It was Johnson's 12th assist of the season and Roginski's seventh.
The Colonels were 3-for-8 on the power play in the game and were perfect on the penalty kill, holding Arcadia to a 0-for-6 mark on the power play.
Michael Paterson-Jones (Baldwinsville, NY/) was strong in goal, earning his 46th career win with 37 saves. Ryan Burgess made 43 saves in the loss.
Wilkes held a 46-39 lead in shots for the game while Arcadia led 40-35 in faceoffs. Berry and Carlson each won 12 faceoffs for the Colonels to lead the way.
Wilkes and Arcadia conclude the UCHC series with the backend of a home-and-home at the Toyota SportsPlex tomorrow at 5:00 p.m.
