Wilkes Men's Soccer Drop Road Match at Scranton
SCRANTON, PA - The Wilkes men's soccer team fell in a tough road contest against the University of Scranton on Wednesday night with the final score being 7-0.
The Royals opened the scoring in the sixth minute with a goal by Ciaran Corr, assisted by Preston Rushmore. Matt Capretto scored a second goal in the 12th minute, assisted by Corr and Corr added his second goal of the game in the 20th minute with an assist by Alex Kozdron. The Royals added their final goal of the half in the 23 with a shot to the top right of the goal by Kozdron.
In the second half, the Royals added three more goals to the scoresheet. In the 52nd minute, Capretto added a goal with an assist by Corr, his second of the night. Logan Campbell scored in the 62nd minute with another assist by Rushmore. The final goal of the game was scored by Zach Simcsak in the 74th minute to mark the 7-0 victory for Scranton.
Wilkes had 11 shots during the game, with the three on goal being taken by Xavier Guerreiro (Newtown, PA/Council Rock North) and Will Wagstaff (Allentown, PA/Parkland). Matthew Conti (Florence, NJ/Florence Township Memorial High School) started in goal for the Colonels, recording two saves during his 22 minutes of play. Owen Heale (Toms River, NJ/Toms River South) played the remainder of the game, recording three saves.
The Colonels will return home on Saturday, October 19 for a 3:30 p.m. match against Elizabethtown for their You Soccer Day game.
