Wilkes Men's Soccer Falls to Elizabethtown 1-0

EDWARDSVILLE, PA - The Wilkes men's soccer team fell 1-0 to Elizabethtown on Saturday in a hard fought match.

The game remained scoreless after the first half, with both teams having opportunities to find the back of the net. Elizabethtown had four shots on goal while Wilkes had just one. Andrew Merchant, Aidan Valentine, Hayden Oldham, and Thomas Smith all took shots on goal for the Blue Jays. Giovanni Mazzola (Whitehall, PA/Whitehall High School) had a near goal for the Colonels in the 41st minute of the first half, but was saved by Blue Jay's goalkeeper Pedro Miranda. In goal, Matthew Conti (Florence, NJ/Florence Township Memorial High School) made four saves in the first half for the Colonels. 

Both teams pressed on in the second half, with the Blue Jays adding four more shots on goal and the Colonels added one shot. Elizabethtown took the lead in the 76th minute when Pedro Vincent took a shot to the bottom left of the goal. The goal came following three blocked shots by the Colonels. Conti had a very impressive performance in goal for the Colonels, allowing only one goal on 25 shots and made seven saves during the game. 

The Colonels will be at home on Wednesday, October 23, to face Lycoming for their final home game of the season. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
