Jackson's Go Ahead Goal Leads Wilkes Men's Soccer to 2-1 Victory Over Lycoming

EDWARDSVILLE, PA - The Colonels late efforts lead to a 2-1 upset over Lycoming on Wednesday night to close out the final home match of the regular season.

In what proved to be a level playing field for the duration of the match, the Warriors struck first in the final seconds of the first half. Kenny Clapp recorded the goal, assisted by Owen Magee and Thomas Geyer. Xavier Guerreiro (Newtown, PA/Council Rock North) opened the scoring for the Colonels, with a goal off a penalty kick in the 69th minute of play. Maintaining the momentum, Wilkes continued pressing into the final seconds of the game. With just 25 seconds remaining in the game, the Colonels secured a corner kick and capitalized on the opportunity with Joseph Jackson (West Chester, PA/Bayard Ruston) getting the ball to the back of the net with just one second remaining in the game.

Lycoming recorded a total of 27 shots during the game, with Wilkes only taking eight, all occurring in the second half. Matthew Conti (Florence, NJ/Florence Township Memorial High School) had an impressive performance in goal, tallying seven saves to keep the Warriors at one. Guerrerio led the team in shots with three, while Jackson and Giovanni Mazzola (Whitehall, PA/Whitehall High School) each recorded two.

The Colonels will be on the road this Saturday, October 26, to face Catholic at 3:30 p.m.
