Wilkes Field Hockey Upended at Elizabethtown 5-0
ELIZABETHTOWN, PA – Host Elizabethtown College scored two goals early in the first quarter and never looked back adding three more insurance tallies in the final frame on way to a 5-0 Landmark Conference victory over the Wilkes University field hockey team Saturday afternoon at Wolf Field.
Wilkes slipped to 2-13 overall and 0-6 in league games following the road defeat, while Elizabethtown improved to 5-9 overall and 2-4 in conference contests.
Drew Bridges scored a pair of goals at 6:17 and 9:09 of the first quarter to give the Blue Jays a 2-0 lead after one. The game went scoreless through the second and third quarter before Bridges completed her hat trick at 46:52 in the fourth followed by goals from Riley Stephan (49:47) and Mia Fino (57:01) to seal the home conference win.
The Blue Jays held a 24-4 shot advantage while garnering 13 penalty corners to the Colonels one attempt.
Olivia Wickel (Whitehall, PA/Whitehall) finished with 11 saves for Wilkes in goal while Rachel Murphy and Angelina Giglio-Tos split halves in goal each finishing with one stop to combined for the shutout.
Wilkes finishes off its two-game home stand in conference play first on Tuesday with a game against Lycoming College starting at 7:00 p.m.
