Late Goal Lifts #5 Elmira Over Wilkes Women's Ice Hockey 4-2
UTICA, NY — With the game tied at two, No. 5 Elmira College scored the eventual game-winner with 1:53 left in the third period on way to a 4-2 victory over the Wilkes University women's ice hockey team in the semifinals of the Utica University Kickoff Tournament Friday night.
The Colonels struck first taking a one goal lead with just under 14 minute left in the second period thanks to
Haylee Bouchard's (Sioux Lookout, ON) tally off assist from
Renee Ng (Hong Kong, China/Mount Academy) and
Rachel Morey (Clearmont, WY).
Elmira responded tying the game with less than three minutes remaining in the second frame. The Soaring Eagles then took their first advantage of the contest 6:37 into the third period. The lead was short-lived as Nina Hudakova notched her first collegiate goal when she fired in a shot to the top left of the goal off a pass from
Amanda Spreadbury (Suwanee, GA/) on the rush.
Elmira answered back with under two minutes left in the game when a shot was redirected in front of Colonels goalie
Audrey Milne (London, ON/). The Soaring Eagles added an empty net goal with :12 left to seal the victory.
Milne finished with 27 saves in net for Wilkes facing 31 shots.
Wilkes will face Suffolk University in the consolation game tomorrow at 1:00 p.m. Suffolk fell 1-0 to host Utica in the other semifinal game.
