Roginski's Overtime Goal Secures Wilkes Men's Ice Hockey With 3-2 Home Opener Win
WILKES-BARRE, PA - In a close game against the Knights, Patrick Roginski's (Shelby Twp., MI) overtime goal secured the Colonels with a 3-2 victory against Arcadia on Tuesday night.
The first period did not see much action as the game remained scoreless going into the second. The Knights had 12 shots while the Colonels had 11 during the first period, proving the back and forth battle for the first goal of the game. Arcadia opened the scoring in the sixth minute of the second period with a goal by Jared Shuter and assists by Wesley Crofoot and Donnie Feldman.
The Colonels responded in the sixth minute of the third period with a goal by Cole Jungwirth (Bloomington, MN). Assists came from Roginski and Nick Swain (Jackson, NJ). Christopher Paige (Massena, NY) scored the second goal for the Colonels two minutes later to give Wilkes the lead. Paige's goal was assisted by Leyton Pettypiece (Rochester, MI) and Lorenzo Marcolin (Saratoga Springs, NY). Justin Song scored the equalizer for the Knights in the 12th minute of the period with the assist from Crofoot. Going into overtime, Roginski scored the game winner in the second minute of play to give Wilkes the Victory.
Leading in shots for the Colonels was Jungwirth with five, followed by Pettypiece with four. Jungwirth also recorded the team high in blocks with four. Roginski, Marcolin, Swain and Mason Vonk (West Olive, MI) each tallied two blocks during the game. Roginksi recorded the highest plus/minus of the game with a plus two. In goal, Jack Perna (Sykesville, MD) totaled 31 saves on 33 shots for a .939 save percentage.
The Colonels will be back home this Friday, November 15 as they host Lebanon Valley College at 5 p.m.
