Wilkes Women's Basketball Upended at No. 3 Scranton in Landmark Conference Opener
 
SCRANTON, PA – No. 3 University of Scranton opened the 2024-25 Landmark Conference campaign posting a 100-30 victory over the Wilkes University women's basketball team Wednesday night at the John Long Center.
 
Wilkes fell to 0-5 overall and 0-1 in Landmark pay following the road defeat. Scranton remained unbeaten improving to 3-0 overall and 1-0 in league games.
 
The host Royals raced out to a 35-8 lead and never looked back holding the Colonels to under ten points in all but one quarter of play in the home league win.
 
Wilkes' best quarter came in the fourth when Wilkes scored ten points including scores from three players off the bench in Carolyn Lundy (Fair Haven, NJ/St. John Vianney), Kyleen McCance (Hanover, PA/Hanover Area) and Julianna Askins (Carlisle, PA/Carlisle).
 
Yamirelis Matos (Springfield, MA/Chicopee) topped Wilkes with eight points in the loss. Wilkes was cold from the field throughout shooting just 20.8 percent (11-53) from the field including a 3-for-22 performance from behind the arc.
 
Kaci Kranson and Elizabeth Bennett led the Royals with 14 points each as 15 different players reached the scoring column in the victory.
 
Wilkes returns home Saturday to face Catholic University in a Landmark Conference contest at the Marts Center starting at 1:00 p.m.
