Wilkes Men's Ice Hockey Defeats Misericordia 3-2
WILKES-BARRE - The Wilkes men's ice hockey team defeated Misericordia in their first of two games this weekend with goals by three different Colonels for a final score of 3-2.
Nick Swain (Jackson, NJ) opened the scoring for the Colonels in the sixth minute of the first period, with the assist coming from Max Cocchi (Ludlow, MA). Luke Dobles (Spencerport, NY) added a second goal in the sixth minute of the second period and Carter Jordan (Fort Collins, CO) recorded the third goal in the ninth minute of the second to give the Colonels a 3-0 lead. Jordan's goal was assisted by Joe Johnson (Midland, MI). The Cougars came back nearing the end of the second period, with Ryan Karbach scoring their first goal of the game in the 14th minute, assisted by Ethan Hollingsworth. Just four minutes later, Misericordia scored their second of the night, with Karbach adding another, this one scored on a power play. Karbach's second goal was assisted by Jack Tos and Dom Della Civita. The Colonel defense held strong to keep the Cougars at two.
Leading the team in shots was Patrick Roginski (Shelby Twp., MI) with 10, followed by Cam Lowe (Lancaster, MA) with 8, Cole Jungwirth (Bloomington, MN) with 6 and Johnson with five. Each of the shot leaders recorded fourth shots on goal as well. Jordan recorded the team high in faceoff wins with 12 and Roginski led in blocks with two. Nate Terski (North Grafton, MA) had the highest plus/minus of the game, ending with a plus three. In goal, Jack Perna (Sykesville, MD) recorded 23 saves on 25 shots for a .920 save percentage.
The Colonels will be back on the ice tomorrow afternoon to take on the Cougars a second time. Puck drop is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. at the Toyota Sportsplex.
