WILKES-BARRE – The Wilkes University women's ice hockey team cruised to a 5-0 shutout victory over Middle Atlantic Conference foes Hood College on Saturday night to remain perfect when playing at the Toyota SportsPlex.

Wilkes improves to 4-3-0 on the year with a 3-2-0 record in MAC play. Hood falls 2-5-0 with a 0-5-0 record in conference play.

The Colonels quickly opened the scoring in the first period, as Hannah Franz (North Bay, ON) scored just six minutes into the game, assisted by Jordan Ferry (Bohemia, NY). Ten minutes later, Gianna Pacilio (Franklinville, NJ) lit the lamp to double the lead with assists from Avery Brigden (Barrie, ON) and Bella Kaczorowski (Anchorage, AK/NAHA White).

In the second period, Wilkes peppered Hood with 17 shots, but were unable to find the back of the net. Not long into the third period the Colonels had their breakthrough, as Haylee Bouchard (Sioux Lookout, ON) made it a 3-0 game with assists from Brigden and Chayce Hyndman (Mountain, ON). The Colonels kept the goals coming in quick succession as three minutes later, Lily Zingaro (Collingwood, ON) scored off of assists from Hyndman and Nina Hudáková. Kaczorowski finished the game off with a goal at 13:42 in the third, with assists from Mina Killingstad (Hønefoss, Norway/Lillehammer) and Rachel Morey (Clearmont, WY).

With seconds left and her shutout on the line, Audrey Milne (London, ON) wowed the crowd with a full-split save that kept the Blazers out. As the horn sounded, the scoreboard read 5-0 in favor of the home team.

Ferry led the Colonels with 12 of the team's 63 shots, finishing +2 and going 9-12 from the faceoff circle. Iida Laitinen (Jyväskylä, Finland) only lost one faceoff all night, going 14-15. In net, Milne got the shutout with five saves. Five goalscorers made the scorecard for Wilkes, but Brigden and Hyndman led the team in the assists column with two assists.

Reece Gall led the Blazers with two shots. In net, Kamryn Sohner made 58 saves.

The Colonels and the Blazers close out their weekend series tomorrow at the Toyota SportsPlex with puck drop set for 3:30 p.m.
