Wilkes Men's Ice Hockey Defeats King's 5-2
PITTSTON, PA - The Wilkes men's ice hockey team took down King's on Friday with a final score of 5-2.
The Colonels opened the scoring early, with Patrick Roginski (Shelby Twp., MI) scoring the first goal of the game in the first minute of play. Daniel Nau (Wake Forest, NC) recorded the assist on the goal. The Monarchs responded with a goal of their own 10 minutes later, with Ethan Hersant finding the back of the net and assists coming from Kent Lee and Erik Borshchevsky. Wilkes regained the lead in the final minute of the first period with Max Cocchi (Ludlow, MA) netting the Colonels second goal of the game.
The Monarchs scored the lone goal in the second period to level out the playing field once again. Braydon Buckingham scored the equalizer in the seventh minute of the second period with Teodore Vaage Benno recording the assist. Wilkes took the lead once again when Carter Jordan (Fort Collins, CO) scored the Colonels third goal in the sixth minute of the third period, which came off a power play. Jordan added a second goal of the night in the 19th minute of the third period along with Cocchi netting his second of the night just 30 seconds later with an assist by Nick Swain (Jackson, NJ) to give the Colonels a 5-2 lead.
Roginski led the Colonels in total shots with nine, two being on goal, followed by Cam Lowe (Lancaster, MA) with eight shots, four on goal. Cole Jungwirth (Bloomington, MN) led the team in blocks, with two total and Jordan and Cocchi led the team in points with two each. In goal, Jack Perna (Sykesville, MD) recorded 17 saves and a .895 save percentage. Overall, Wilkes out shot Kings with 60 shots compared to 40 and 35 shots on goal compared to the Monarch's 19. The Colonels also won 42 faceoffs over Kings' 27.
The Colonels will be back on the road at Kings tomorrow afternoon for a 4 p.m. matchup against the Monarchs.
