Wilkes Women's Ice Hockey Blanks Kings 4-0 in Home Opener

WILKES-BARRE, PA - The Wilkes women's ice hockey team shutout Kings 4-0 this afternoon in their home opener.

After a scoreless first period, Iida Laitinen (Jyväskylä, Finland) opened the scoring for the Colones in the 10th minute of the second period, with Amanda Spreadbury (Suwanee, GA) picking up the assist. Spreadbury followed her assist up with a goal of her own in the 13th minute of the second, with an assist by Savanna Maxon (Anchorage, AK/Alaska All-Stars). Haylee Bouchard (Sioux Lookout, ON) added a third goal for the Colonels just two minutes later and Laitinen rounded off the goals in the 17th minute of the second period with her second goal of the game, this one being assisted by Bouchard. 

The Colonels recorded a total of 50 shots throughout the game, with Jordan Ferry (Bohemia, NY) leading the team with seven, followed by Laitinen, Bouchard and Spreadbury with 5 each. Maxon, Laitinen, and Hanna Franz recorded a team high plus three in plus/minus and Chayce Hyndman (Mountain, ON) tallied the most blocks with three, followed by Franz and Bouchard with two apiece. In goal, Audrey Milne (London, ON) recorded her first shutout of the season and sixth overall, recording 14 saves against the Monarchs.

The Colonels will be back home tomorrow afternoon for another matchup against King's. The game is set to begin at 3:30 p.m.
