Wilkes Women's Ice Hockey Takes Down Kings 5-2

WILKES-BARRE, PA - The Wilkes women's ice hockey team defeated King's 5-2 on Saturday afternoon in dominating fashion.

The Colonels got the scoring started early, with Haylee Bouchard (Sioux Lookout, ON) netting an unassisted goal in the fifth minute of the first period. Jordan Ferry (Bohemia, NY) added a second goal for the Colonels in the 16th minute of the first period with an assist from Amanda Spreadbury (Suwanee, GA). The Monarchs netted one just 10 seconds later to cut the deficit to one. The goal was scored by Sammi Stead and assisted by Abby Barlocker. 

Nina Hudáková opened the scoring in the second period with a goal in the sixth minute of the period with the assist by Danielle Longuemare (Pembroke, MA/Portsmouth Abbey School) to get the Colonels their two goal lead back. An unassisted shorthanded goal by King's Jordan Dittmar in the 18th minute of the second brought it back to a one goal deficit for the Monarchs, until the third period when Megan Bell (Waterloo, ON) scored an assisted goal in the fifth minute to bring the score to 4-2. Ferry added her second goal of the game in the 18th minute of the third, assisted by Anneke Bouma (Newcastle, ON) to secure the win for the Colonels.

Overall, Wilkes recorded 51 shots during the game, with Ferry leading the team with eight, followed by Bell with six. Gianna Pacilio (Franklinville, NJ), Tilly Wierdsma (New Hartford, CT/), and Rachel Morey (Clearmont, WY) each recorded a block and Longuemare recorded the highest plus/minus of the game at plus four. In goal, Audrey Milne (London, ON) recorded seven saves on nine shots for a .778 save percentage. 

The Colonels will be on the road for their next game on Friday, November 15 as they face Lebanon Valley College in a 7 p.m. matchup.
