Wilkes Women's Basketball Drops Road Landmark Contest Against Lycoming
WILLIAMSPORT, PA – A big second quarter propelled host Lycoming College to an 83-40 Landmark Conference victory over the Wilkes University women's basketball team Wednesday night at Lamade Gymnasium.
Wilkes dropped to 0-8 overall and 0-3 in Landmark play following the road defeat. Lycoming picked up its first win of the season standing 1-4 overall and 1-2 in league games.
The Colonels kept things close in the first quarter as a bucket from
Maliyah Warren (Phoenixville, PA/Phoenixville) off an assist from
Nadia Evanosky (Dallas, PA/Dallas) put Wilkes ahead 5-4 with 7:01 on the clock. Evanosky notched a layup of her own with 2:31 left in the opening frame as Wilkes trailed by just eight 21-13 after one.
The second quarter proved to be the difference in the contest as Lycoming outscored Wilkes 25-5 over the 10 minute stanza to take a 46-18 advantage at the break. Wilkes mustered just two field goals in the quarter shooting 13.3 percent (2-15) from the field and 1-of-9 from long range.
The Lycoming lead never fell below 30 points throughout the third and fourth quarters as Lycoming shot 45.3 percent (24-53) and 50 percent (8-16) from three-point range throughout.
Evanosky led the Colonels in scoring finishing with 11 points and eight rebounds. Warren followed with 10 points and three boards.
Allison Fisher topped two Warriors in double figures with a game-high 19 points and five rebounds, shooting a perfect 3-for-3 from long range.
The Colonels continued Landmark play on Saturday with another road matchup at Juniata College scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
