WILKES-BARRE – The Wilkes University wrestling team recorded its eighth dual match victory of the season cruising to a 34-7 win over cross-town rival King's College Friday night inside the Scandlon Gymasium.
 
The Colonels improved to 8-6 overall on the season while King's finished its dual match slate with a 9-6 mark.
 
Wilkes wasted little time taking the lead with wins in eight of ten bouts including five extra-point victories on way to the 27-point decision.
 
At 125-pounds, Connor Kerwin (Totowa, NJ/Passaic Valley) began the match with a tough 4-3 decision to give the Colonels a 3-0 lead. Michael Richardson (Brick, NJ/Brick Memorial) followed with a 2-0 decision at 133-pounds before Jack Bauer (Ringoes, NJ/Hunterdon Central) dominated his 141-pound bout earning an 8-0 major decision to put the Colonels ahead 10-0 after three matches.
 
After King's picked up its first points of the night at 149-pounds with a major decision, Jaryn Hartranft (Catasauqua, PA/Catasauqua) pinned Bret Murphy in 2:29 at 157-pounds to extend the Wilkes lead to 16-4. Hartranft recorded his 28^th win on the season in the process.
 
Colton Thorpe (Southington, CT/Southington) followed at 165-pounds with a 16-1 technical fall over Cam Leslie as the advantage grew to 21-4. King's added a decision win at 174-pounds before Christopher Nuss (Gore, VA/James Wood) claimed the Colonels fourth extra-point win on the night with an 11-3 major decision at 184-pounds.
 
Cameron Butka (Scranton, PA/West Scranton) continued his successful season earning his 30^th victory with a 10-4 decision over Richard Fronheiser at 197-pounds. Caleb Burkhart (Hughesville, PA/Hughesville) concluded the match with his 19 fall of the year pinning Bill Grace in 1:36 at heavyweight.
 
Wilkes returns to the mat Sunday when the Colonels host Elizabethtown College at 12:00 p.m. in the Marts Center in their final dual match of the season.
