Wilkes Men's Tennis Wins 5-4 Against Grove City
KINGSTON, PA – The Wilkes University men's tennis team won two of three in doubles play then used a win at No. 2 singles to clinch a hard-fought 5-4 victory over Grove City College Friday afternoon at TK Academy in a non-conference match.
Wilkes improved its dual match record to 2-1 on the season while Grove City fell to 3-2 overall.
The Colonels took a 2-1 lead after doubles play as the No. 1 pair of
Nathanial Rathe (Lincoln, NE/Lincoln Southeast) and
Sebastian Sylvester (Diego Martin, Trinidad and Tobago/The College of Lady Fatima) won 8-2 and No. 3 duo
Connor Frey (Binghamton, NY/Chenango Valley) and
Angelo Guzman (Port Jefferson Station, NY/Comsewogue) posted an 8-5 win.
Guzman was a winner at No.1 singles 7-6, 6-0 before Sylvester took home a three-set match winning 1-6, 6-2, 10-6 in the deciding set.
Rathe clinched the match for Wilkes winning 6-4, 7-5 at No. 2.
The Colonels will continue three straight days of dual matches welcoming Division I Lafayette College tomorrow (Saturday) at 12:00 p.m. at TK Academy.
