Wilkes Men's Tennis Edges Lebanon Valley 5-4 in Non-Conference Match
KINGSTON, PA – The Wilkes University men's tennis team got back on the winning track Sunday afternoon posting a thrilling 5-4 non-conference dual match victory over Lebanon Valley College at TK Academy.
Wilkes improved to 3-2 in dual matches this season while LVC dropped to 4-2 on the year.
The Colonels raced out to a 3-0 lead after doubles play thanks to wins from No. 1 pair
Sebastian Sylvester (Diego Martin, Trinidad and Tobago/The College of Lady Fatima) and
Angelo Guzman (Port Jefferson Station, NY/Comsewogue) (8-3), No. 2 pair
Cole Riley (Louisville, KY/Xavier) and
Jonah Nguyen (Enola, PA/East Pennsboro Area) (8-3) and No. 3 duo
Nathanial Rathe (Lincoln, NE/Lincoln Southeast) and
Connor Frey (Binghamton, NY/Chenango Valley) (8-2).
After a win from Guzman at No. 1 singles in straight sets 6-1, 6-2, Riley clinched the match with a 6-4, 6-1 victory at No. 5 singles. LVC took the rest of the singles flights with No. 2 and No. 4 coming in a deciding third set tie breaker.
Wilkes remains idle until it begins its first season of Landmark Conference play hosting Goucher College on Saturday, March 23 at 1:00 p.m. at the Ralston Athletic Complex.
