Seames' Double OT Goal Lifts Wilkes Men's Lacrosse Over King's 11-10
EDWARDSVILLE –
Austin Seames (Newton, NJ/Kittatinny Regional) scored the game-winning goal with one second left in the second overtime to lift the Wilkes University men's lacrosse team to an 11-10 victory over King's College Wednesday night at Schmidt Stadium.
Wilkes improved to 3-4 on the season while King's dropped to 1-4 on the year.
Wilkes opened the scoring with a pair of goals two minutes into the game as
Colby Opromolla (Patterson, NY/Carmel) posted his tenth of the season at 14:22 and
Anthony DelDuca (Westchester, NY/Westlake) notched his fifth of the year off a helper from
Matthew Warns (Cutchogue, NY/Mattituck) at 13:51 to put the Colonels ahead 2-0. King's responded with its first of the game at 13:26 to cut the lead in half.
The Colonels answered back with three straight goals to push the advantage to 5-1 as
Tim Hartka (Phoenix, MD/Calvert Hall) scored twice and Opromolla added his second of the game in the run. King's added its second goal of the game with :33 left in the first quarter as Wilkes kept a 5-2 lead after one.
King's scored the lone two goals in the second quarter as the Monarchs continued to trail 5-4 at the break.
King's tied the game for the first time early in the third quarter before Hartka completed his hat trick to put Wilkes ahead 6-5 with 11:34 left in the third. The Monarchs responded with two unanswered goals to take their first lead of the contest up 7-6 with 6:25 left in the third frame. DelDuca and Hartka closed out the scoring for the Colonels in the final six minutes of the third as King's held a slight advantage up 9-8.
Matthew Warns (Cutchogue, NY/Mattituck) tied the game at nine three minutes into the fourth quarter when he scored off an assist from
J'Vier Johnson (Easton, PA/Easton Area). After a King's goal to give the Monarchs the lead back, Hartka notched his career-best fifth goal to tie the game at 10 where it stayed through the second overtime.
From there it was Seames who played hero scoring the game-winner with a shot that found the back of the net with :01 remaining to seal the win for the Colonels.
Hartka and Opromolla each finished with five points. Opromolla posted two goals and three assists while Hartka cashed in five times for goals.
Joseph Marino (Swedesboro, NJ/Kingsway Regional) picked up the win in goal finishing with 16 saves.
Wilkes opens Landmark Conference play Saturday when the Colonels travel to Moravian University for a matchup scheduled for 1:00 p.m. in Bethlehem, Pa.
