Wilkes Women's Lacrosse Bested by Lycoming
WILKES-BARRE – The Wilkes women's lacrosse team were defeated by Lycoming College in a Landmark Conference contest Wednesday night, falling 19-6 at Schmidt Stadium.
Wilkes falls to 2-11 overall with a 0-5 record in Landmark play, while Lycoming improve to 5-6 on the year with a 1-3 record against conference opponents.
The Warriors opened the scoring with eight unanswered goals, but
Maleah Cobham (Westbury, NY/W.T. Clarke) scored her 20
th goal of the season with 36 seconds remaining to keep the Colonels from a blank first quarter. Lycoming scored one more to take a 9-1 lead into the second quarter.
Brooklyn Pedana (Pittston, PA/Pittston Area) responded to Lycoming's second quarter-opening goal with 12:08 to play, assisted by
Sam Mullen (Dover, PA/York Catholic), to make it a 10-2 game. The Warriors scored five unanswered goals following Pedana's strike to take a 15-2 lead into halftime.
Morgan Hettesheimer (Monroe Twp., PA/Tunkhannock Area) opened the second half in electric fashion, picking up the opening draw control and racing to the Warrior net for the score to make it 15-3. Lycoming responded with three goals of their own to make the score 18-3, but
Emma Raville (Gettysburg, PA/Gettysburg Area) scored her second goal of the season with six seconds left in the third to make it an 18-4 game going into the fourth.
Pedana opened the fourth with her second goal of the evening, assisted by
Ava Ward (Mount Pleasant, SC/Bishop England) to make it an 18-5 contest. She completed her hat trick with 3:28 left to play, assisted by
Keara Dugey (Kunkletown, PA/Pleasant Valley), but the Colonels fell to the Warriors 19-5.
Pedana's hat trick led Wilkes in goals and points with three, while Cobham led the team with eight shots on goal. Cobham and
Taylor Quackenbush (Rockaway, NJ/Morris Hills) both topped the charts with three ground balls as Hettesheimer led in draw controls with five. In net
Brooklynn Donia (Sewell, NJ/Washington Township) made four saves in her quarter of play, while
Samantha Scott (Binghamton, NY/Chenango Valley) made eight across her 45 minutes of action.
Riley Block led Lycoming with eight goals, three ground balls, and two caused turnovers. In net, Zoe Stauffer made 15 saves.
The Colonels hit the road for their next contest as they travel to face Susquehanna University on Saturday, April 13 at 12:00 p.m.
