Wilkes Women's Tennis Edges Out Elizabethtown 5-4 in Landmark Win
ELIZABETHTOWN, PA – The Wilkes University women's tennis team won four of six singles flights to edge out host Elizabethtown College 5-4 Saturday afternoon in Landmark Conference action.
The Colonels improved to 4-7 overall and 4-3 in league matches following the road conference victory.
Elizabethtown took a 2-1 lead after doubles play as the Blue Jays won No. 2 and 3 pairs by scores of 8-6 and 8-3. Wilkes received a win at No. 1 thanks to the play of
Cassidy Greenman (Glen Gardner, NJ/Voorhees) and
Zoe Klein (Southbury, CT/Pomperaug) who posted an 8-3 decision.
Elizabethtown took wins at No. 4 and 5 to move to within one match of clinching, but Wilkes' wins at No. 1, 2, 3 and 6 pushed the Colonels ahead and to their fourth conference win of the season.
Tea Amerise (Mountain Top, PA/Holy Redeemer) won 6-0, 6-3 at No. 1. Greenman went 6-3, 6-1 at No. 2 and Klein followed with a 6-0, 6-2 victory at No. 3.
Kensington Edmond (Mount Joy, PA/Donegal) was the final Wilkes singles winner taking her No. 6 match 6-4, 6-3.
Wilkes returns home to face conference-leader Drew University on Wednesday starting at 3:30 at the Ralston Athletic Complex.
