Wilkes Men's Tennis Sweeps Lycoming 9-0 in Landmark Finale
WILLIAMSPORT, PA – The Wilkes University men's tennis team finished out its first season in the Landmark Conference in fine fashion sweeping host Lycoming College 9-0 Monday afternoon.
Wilkes closed out the regular season with a 6-7 overall record standing 4-5 in league matches.
The Colonels went up 3-0 after doubles action thanks to wins from No. 1 pair
Angelo Guzman (Port Jefferson Station, NY/Comsewogue) and
Sebastian Sylvester (Diego Martin, Trinidad and Tobago/The College of Lady Fatima) 8-1, No. 2
Jonah Nguyen (Enola, PA/East Pennsboro Area) and
Cole Riley (Louisville, KY/Xavier) 8-6 and No. 3
Nathanial Rathe (Lincoln, NE/Lincoln Southeast) and
Connor Frey (Binghamton, NY/Chenango Valley) 8-0.
Guzman took his No. 1 singles match in straight sets 6-1, 6-0 followed by No. 2 winner Rathe at 6-1, 6-0. Sylvester went 6-2, 6-1 at No. 3 while Riley was perfect at No. 4 winning 6-0, 6-0.
Donovan Zong (Bethlehem, PA/Salisbury Township) (6-0, 6-1) and
Drew Fiedler (Stroudsburg, PA/Stroudsburg) (6-0, 7-5) rounded out the Colonels sweep in singles play.
Wilkes has secured the sixth seed in next week's Landmark Conference Tournament with first round play to begin on May 1.
