Five Members of Wilkes Baseball Earn All-Landmark Recognition
TOWSON, Md. – After finishing the season with a 22-16 record under first year head coach
Mike Guy, the Wilkes baseball team saw five players selected to the 2024 All-Landmark baseball team, as announced by the conference office on Monday afternoon.
Nathan Loch (Effort, PA/Pleasant Valley) was named to the All-Landmark First Team as a second baseman. The middle infielder appeared in all 38 games for the Colonels, boasting a .326 batting average with a total of 44 hits including 17 RBIs, 12 doubles and four triples. The first year was also a major threat on the basepaths, recording a team-high 22 stolen bases. Loch quickly established himself as a consistent presence in the field as well, finishing the season with a .981 fielding percentage and turning 24 double plays, the most on the team.
Starting pitcher
Zachary Lloyd (Scranton, PA/West Scranton) also earned end-of-season recognition, appearing on the All-Landmark Second Team. The righthander was a staple in the Colonels' rotation, striking out a team-high 41 batters in 62.2 innings across 13 appearances on the mound. Lloyd finished his first season of collegiate ball with a 6-1 record, 2.87 ERA and the lone complete game of the year; a 7-inning shutout performance in the 4-0 win over Penn State Behrend.
Third baseman
Luke Spencer (Lehman, PA/Lake Lehman) attained All-Landmark Second Team status in his first season at Wilkes after transferring in from Northampton Community College. Spencer started all 38 games at the hot corner for the Blue and Gold and was defensively sound all season, ending the year with a .897 fielding percentage while getting involved in a whopping 96 putouts. The junior was also one of the most productive Colonels at the plate, leading the team in batting average (.341), OPS (1.016), slugging percentage (.530), hits (45), RBIs (35), doubles (13) and walks (22). Adding to his impressive resume, Spencer hit three triples, two home runs and stole 21 bases on the year.
Joining Lloyd and Spencer on the All-Landmark Second Team is utility player
Mike Show (Clarks Summit, PA/Abington Heights). Splitting time between center field and the pitcher's mound throughout all 38 games, he racked up 32 hits including 10 doubles, two triples and two homers with 24 RBIs across 128 plate appearances. Concluding his junior season with a .281 batting average and a .852 OPS, Show also tacked on 21 stolen bases and 20 walks. In the field, he maintained a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage after going 84-for-84 with 78 putouts and six assists. Show was a valuable member of the Colonels' bullpen as well, providing 26.0 innings of work across 14 appearances. The righty picked up six saves while striking out 20 batters and holding his opponents' batting average to .220 - the lowest average across all Wilkes pitchers with 10+ innings pitched.
Rounding out the All-Landmark selections is
Zack Luksic (Shavertown, PA/Dallas), who was selected as an Honorable Mention at the designated hitter position. In 122 at-bats, Luksic tallied 31 hits with 32 RBIs, eight doubles and three triples while mashing six home runs to lead the team in the long ball department. He finished his junior campaign with a .254 batting average, a .883 OPS and a .516 slugging percentage. Behind the plate, Luksic gunned down seven runners and recorded 121 putouts.
