WILKES-BARRE – The Wilkes University field hockey team were bested by cross-town rival King's College at McCarthy Stadium on Wednesday afternoon by a final score of 2-0.

With the loss, the Colonels fall to 1-3 on the year, while King's improve to 1-2.

The Colonels kept the Monarchs off the scoreboard in the first quarter thanks to two saves from goalkeeper Olivia Wickel (Whitehall, PA/Whitehall). After a scoreless first quarter, however, King's found the opener early in the second through Davina Krappa. They would double their lead after halftime with a goal from Ellie Para.

In the fourth quarter the Colonel offense found a spark, out-shooting King's 4-3, but couldn't find a goal before time expired. Morgan Hermanowski led the Colonels with two shots and one on goal. In goal, Wickel played all 60 minutes and made four saves on six shots faced.

Krappa and Para led the Monarchs in goals with one each, while Emma Clark led in shots with four total shots, all on goal. In net, Emily Bollinger made two saves in 60 minutes of play.

The Colonels return to Schmidt Stadium for their next contest on Saturday, September 14 against Western Connecticut State for Senior Day at 1:00 p.m.
