Wilkes Field Hockey Dominates Elmira College 11-1 on Alumni Day
EDWARDSVILLE – The Wilkes University field hockey team snapped their four-game losing streak with a dominant victory at Schmidt Stadium on Sunday afternoon, defeating Elmira College 11-1 on Alumni Day.
Wilkes improved to 2-3 on the year with the win, while Elmira fell to 0-3 overall.
The Colonels first goal of the day came less than five minutes into the game, as
Lexie Nevel (Nescopeck, PA/Berwick) scored with an assist from
Morgan Hermanofski (Shickshinny, PA/Northwest Area). A few minutes later, first year
Emma Lautenbacher (Bangor, PA/Bangor) scored her first career goal to double the lead, assisted by
Bridget Rosenfeld (Massapequa, NY/Massapequa). With just under five minutes left to play in the first quarter, the Colonels added two more goals in quick succession from
Shaelyn Donnelly (Glassboro, NJ/GCIT) and
Genesis Del Carmen Duran (Bethlehem, PA/Liberty), their first goals in blue and yellow. By the end of the first frame, the Colonels led 4-0.
Wilkes struck again early in the second quarter as Rosenfeld scored with 13:46 left in the half to make it a 5-0 game. At the halfway point of the quarter, Rosenfeld scored again, assisted by Donnelly, to make it 6-0. Two more quick-strike goals with five minutes left to play from
Madalyn Thomas (Dallas, PA/Dallas) and Donnelly made it 8-0 before Elmira finally got on the board with three minutes left to play in the half, but
Kellie Scott (Northport, ME/Kents Hill) added one more goal before the horn sounded to send the Colonels into halftime up 9-1.
Wilkes scored again late in the third quarter thanks to
Morgan Hermanofski (Shickshinny, PA/Northwest Area), assisted by Lautenbacher to make it 10-1, and
Allysa Pardue (Elkton, MD/Bohemia Manor) scored the final goal of the day in the fourth to boost the Colonel lead to 11-1, assisted by Lautenbacher again. The Colonels held that lead until the final horn sounded, picking up their second win of the season.
Rosenfeld and Donnelly led the nine Colonel goalscorers with two goals each, while Lautenbacher and Hermanofski led in assists with two each. Hermanofski also led the Colonels with seven total shots and six on goal.
Olivia Wickel (Whitehall, PA/Whitehall) made two saves in goal for Wilkes.
Caitlin Ehlenfield scored the lone Elmira goal, while Jazmine Elliott led the team with two shots on goal. Reese Bowen made 11 saves in goal for the Soaring Eagles.
The Colonels return to action on Wednesday, September 18 as they continue their September homestand against Oneonta at 6:00 p.m.
