Ithaca Spoils Wilkes Men's Soccer Home Opener as Colonels Fall 5-0 to Bombers
 
EDWARDSVILLE – Visiting Ithaca College scored two goals in the first half, then added three more over the final 45 minutes on way to a 5-0 non-conference shutout victory over the Wilkes University men's soccer team spoiling the Colonels home opener on Monday afternoon at Bruggeworth Field.
 
Wilkes moved its overall record to 1-2 following the defeat while Ithaca improved to 1-1 on the season.
 
The Bombers controlled the pace of play throughout the contest out-shooting Wilkes 31-5 over the course of 90 minutes of play. Ithaca also held a 12-1 advantage in corner kicks.
 
The visitors scored first at 13:34 before adding another goal at 24:29 to take a 2-0 lead to the break. A goal at 65:07 pushed the advantage to 3-0 before strikes at 82:32 and 88:18 capped off the five-goal win. Five different players reached the scoring column for Ithaca.
 
Matthew Conti (Florence, NJ/Florence Township Memorial High School) finished with 11 saves in the loss for Wilkes while Bryson Shaull finished with one save to record the shutout for Ithaca.
 
The Colonels continue their home stretch on Wednesday hosting Penn State Harrisburg at 7:00 p.m. at Bruggeworth Field.
