Wilkes Field Hockey Falls 2-0 Against Cedar Crest
EDWARDSVILLE – Visiting Cedar Crest College scored one goal in the first half, then added an insurance tally in the third quarter on way to a 2-0 shutout victory over the Wilkes University field hockey team Wednesday night at Schmidt Stadium.
With the loss Wilkes dropped to 2-7 overall while Cedar Crest improved to 3-5 on the season.
Kylah Demarest opened the scoring for the Falcons notching a goal off a pass from the right rise from Avery Daku 10:27 into the first quarter.
Reagan Ferst made it 2-0 midway through the third quarter as she drilled a shot to the upper left post to seal the non-league road victory.
Wilkes had some scoring chances late in the fourth quarter, but the Colonels were unable to capitalize and break through to find the back of the cage.
Wilkes held an 8-7 shot advantage throughout while garnering 10 penalty corners to Cedar Crest's seven attempts.
Olivia Wickel (Whitehall, PA/Whitehall) made three saves in goal for the Colonels while Shelby Heater finished with eight saves to record the shutout for the Falcons.
The Colonels open Landmark Conference play Saturday when they welcome Susquehanna University for a contest starting at 4:00 p.m.
