Wilkes Field Hockey Falls in Overtime at William Patterson 3-2

Wilkes Field Hockey Falls in Overtime at William Patterson 3-2

WAYNE, NJ – Alexandra Stoner scored the game-winning goal in overtime to lift host William Patterson University to a 3-2 non-conference victory over the Wilkes University field hockey team Wednesday night at Wightman Stadium.

Wilkes slipped to 1-1 overall following the road defeat while William Patterson improved to 1-0 on the season.

Bridget Rosenfeld (Massapequa, NY/Massapequa) put Wilkes on the board first scoring in front of the cage thanks to a pass from Shaelyn Donnelly (Glassboro, NJ/GCIT). Sam Freas tied the game for the Pioneers eight minutes later when she finished a ball that deflected off a Colonel defender.

Rosenfeld gave the Colonels the advantage back when she finished a shot at the back post off a penalty corner with the assist credited to Morgan Millard (Bloomsburg, PA/Bloomsburg Area). William Patterson fought back to tie the game for the second time off a shot from the top of the circle off a corner insert.

From there it was Stoner's heroics that sealed the non-league win for the hosts scoring breaking out up the middle of the field scoring one v one versus the goalie.

Wilkes held an 11-9 shot advantage in the contest while garnering 14 penalty corners to William Patterson's six attempts.

Isabel Snyder (Bloomsburg, PA/Central Columbia) started in net and finished with three saves for Wilkes. Olivia Wickel (Whitehall, PA/Whitehall) entered in relief making one stop.

Wilkes remains on the road Saturday traveling to Reading, Pa. to face Alvernia University in a non-conference game scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
