Men's Soccer Falls Short in Arcadia Matchup
EDWARDSVILLE - The Wilkes University men's soccer team lost a tough battle to Arcadia this afternoon with a final score of 1-0.
The first half tested the Colonel defense, with Arcadia taking nine shots in the half and five on goal, resulting in just one goal for the Knights. The lone goal of the half was scored by Arcadia's Cole Gordon in the 24th minute of the half. Wilkes got four shots off in the half, with three of them being on goal. Shots were taken by Kendall Heck (West Wyoming, PA/Wyoming Area High School), Elijah Emedoh-Kaba (Gilbertsville, PA/Boyertown Area), Giovanni Mazzola (Whitehall, PA/Whitehall High School), and Landon Kelly (Marcellus, NY/Marcellus Senior High School). In net for the Colonels was freshman Owen Heale (Toms River, NJ/Toms River South), who made four saves throughout the half.
The second half was more of a back and forth battle between the two teams, with Wilkes creating more opportunities on offense. During the half, Wilkes was able to get off six shots, three of them being on goal, compared to only one by Arcadia. Both teams totaled 10 shots in the game, but only the Knights were able to find the back of the net. Mazzola led the Colonels in shots throughout the game with three followed by Wagstaff with two. In goal, Heale added one more save in the second half to total five.
The Colonels will play at home again this Tuesday, September 10th at 7 p.m. against Keystone College.
