Wilkes Women's Soccer Rolls to First Win of the Season with 3-0 Shutout Over Alvernia
EDWARDSVILLE – The Wilkes University women's soccer team raced out to a 2-0 lead at the half then added one more goal in the second period of play as the Colonels recorded their first win of the 2024 season with a 3-0 shutout over visiting Alvernia University Saturday afternoon at Bruggeworth Field.
With the victory Wilkes improved to 1-1-1 overall on the season while Alvernia dropped to 2-1 on the year.
Erin Edwards (East Greenville, PA/Upper Perkiomen) gave the Colonels a quick 1-0 lead when she scored just 6:40 in the first half. Edwards collected a rebound off a save and deposited her shot into the low right side of the net.
Jess Shea (Somerset, NJ/Franklin) notched her first goal of the season at the 23:24 mark of the opening half pushing the Wilkes advantage to 2-0 thanks to an assist from
Elena Krajain (Lumberton, NJ/Rancocas Valley Regional).

Amanda Lee (Middletown, PA/Middletown Area) used five key saves to keep the Golden Wolves off the board the rest of the way.
Sarah Eliff (Owings, MD/Northern) added an insurance tally with under nine minutes left in the contest to seal the home victory.
Lee recorded her first win of the season as well as her first career shutout playing all 90 minutes in net.
Wilkes hits the road for the first time this season when the Colonels travel to cross-town rival King's College for a non-conference match on Wednesday with kickoff set for 7:00 p.m.
