Wilkes Women's Basketball Drops Matchup Against Drew

WILKES-BARRE - The Wilkes women's basketball team fell to Drew on Wednesday night with the final score being 62-47.

After the first quarter, the Rangers led by a score of 16-6 with Gianna Pica and Miabella Diaz each recording five points to lead the team in scoring for the quarter. Julianna Askins (Carlisle, PA/Carlisle), Yamirelis Matos (Springfield, MA/Chicopee), and Nadia Evanosky (Dallas, PA/Dallas) each tallied a basket to get the Colonels on the board. Evanosky also recorded three steals, one block and four rebounds in the quarter.  

At the half, the Colonels trailed the Rangers by only six points, with Pica and Diaz each adding three points each to lead Drew with eight total points in the half. Matos led the Colonels in scoring for the first half, adding six points in the second quarter to total eight in the half. Maliyah Warren (Phoenixville, PA/Phoenixville) and Delaney Bogdan (Long Valley, NJ/Mendham) each added a three pointer to the board. Madison Robel (Middlesex, NJ/Middlesex) took the lead in rebounds, with six at the end of the half, and Evanosky added three more steals to lead the team with six after two quarters. 

Following the third quarter, the Rangers were leading the Colonels by a score of 45-26. Maddie Beyer led the team with 15 total points in the game, along with two steals. Askins led the Colonels with 10 total points in the game with two three pointers in the third quarter. Evanosky retook the lead in rebounds with two more in the third quarter to total seven along with Robel.  

The Colonels added 21 points in the fourth quarter, but fell short to Drew who added 17 points of their own in the final quarter. Matos and Askins led the Colonels throughout the game in points, totaling 12 apiece, with Evanosky and Warren each adding six. Ecanosky led in rebounds with nine total, followed by Matos and Robel with eight each. Askins led in assists with three and Evanosky led in steals with six. Wilkes shot 27.7% from the field, 17.6% on three point shot attempts, and 71.4% from the free throw line. 

The Colonels will be back on the court this Saturday as they take on Susquehanna at home with tip off scheduled for 2 p.m.
