Wilkes Basketball to Face Moravian Wednesday Night

WILKES-BARRE - The Wilkes University men's and women's basketball teams are prepared to face Moravian this Wednesday, with the men hosting the Greyhounds and the women on the road. Both games will tip off at 7 p.m.

At halftime of the men's game, former Wilkes University men's basketball head coach Jerry Rickrode and standout player Dave Jannuzzi '01 will be honored for their induction into the Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Hall of Fame.

Men's Preview

The Colonels are coming off another tough loss, falling 64-67 to Susquehanna on Saturday, but are looking for a win against the Greyhounds. The men are 11-4 overall and 5-3 in conference play. 

Sitting at second in the conference in scoring is Lucas Lesko (Northampton, PA/Northampton), who is averaging 22.7 points per game. Cayden Merrifield (Scranton, PA/West Scranton), who is 13th in the conference in scoring, follows behind Lesko, and is averaging 13.6 points per game. Lesko is second in the conference in rebounds with an average of 7.5 per game and Jack Argento (Hershey, PA/Hershey) sits in ninth with an average of 5.7 rebounds per game. Merrifield leads the team in assists and is third in the Landmark with an average of 4.3 assists per game. Joey Zvorsky (New Cumberland, PA/Cedar Cliff) follows, averaging 2.8 assists per game and is ranked tenth in the conference. Lesko is fourth in the conference in blocked shots with an average of 1.3 per game and Argento leads the team in steals, averaging 1.6 per game. 

The team averages 78.5 points per game offensively, leaving them ranked fourth in the conference in scoring. The Colonels are shooting .456 from the field, .322 on three point shot attempts and .679 from the free throw line. They lead the conference in combined team rebounds, with an average of 39.7 per game. 

The Greyhounds will also be entering the game with a 11-4 overall record and are 6-2 in conference play, having most recently defeated Elizabethtown 84-81.

Marquis Ratcliff leads the team in scoring and sits at third in the conference with an average of 18.8 points per game. Chad Kratzer follows in sixth with an average of 17.3 points per game. Ratcliff leads the conference in rebounds, averaging 8.3 per game, and Porter Kelly leads the team in assists and is seventh in the conference with an average of 2.9 per game. Ratcliff also leads the conference in blocked shots, averaging 2.2 per game, and Kratzer leads the team in steals with an average of 1.7 per game. 

Offensively, the Greyhounds are second in the conference in scoring, averaging 83.8 points per game and are shooting .447 from the field. On three point shot attempts, they are shooting .365 and from the free throw line they are shooting .681.

 

Women's Preview 

The Colonels are coming off a 57-83 loss to Susquehanna on Saturday, leaving them with a 0-15 overall record and are 0-8 in conference play. 

In scoring, Yamirelis Matos (Springfield, MA/Chicopee) leads the team and is ranked fifth in the conference with an average of 15.5 points per game. Nadia Evanosky (Dallas, PA/Dallas) follows with an average of 7.5 points per game. Evanosky and Matos also lead in rebounds, both with Evanosky at a 7.8 rebound average per game and Matos at 7.3, leaving them at fourth and seventh in the conference. Madison Robel (Middlesex, NJ/Middlesex) is tenth in the conference in blocked shots, averaging 0.7 per game, and Evanosky follows, also with an average of 0.7 blocks per game. Evanosky is also second in the conference in steals with an average of 3.5 per game.

The Colonels are currently averaging 45.5 points per game, and are shooting .271 from the field. On three point shot attempts, they are shooting .184 and from the free throw line, they are shooting .639. In combined team rebounds, Wilkes is averaging 36.2 rebounds per game. 

The Greyhounds enter the match with a 3-12 overall record and are 1-7 in Landmark play, having most recently come off a 73-45 loss against No. 22 Elizabethtown. 

Lizzie Lustig leads the team in scoring, averaging 11.2 points per game, followed by Juliana Vassallo with an average of 8.8 points per game. Lustig also leads in rebounds, averaging 5.7 per game as well as in assists with a 2.1 average per game. Brielle Gaurente leads the team in blocked shots with an average of 0.6 per game.
