Wilkes Women's Ice Hockey Completes Two Game Sweep With 5-1 Victory Over Alvernia

WILKES-BARRE - The Wilkes women's ice hockey team advances to 14-4 on the season following today's 5-1 win over the Golden Wolves.

The Colonels tallied three goals in the first period of the game, with Megan Bell (Waterloo, ON/St. David Catholic) netting the first one, Iida Laitinen (Jyväskylä, Finland) adding a second on a power play, and Nina Hudakova scoring the third. The game remained 3-0 until the third period, when Alvernia's Khenzie Connick got the Golden Wolves on the board. The Colonels responded with two more goals of their own, with Hudakova and Laitinen each adding their second of the night. Bell picked up two assists, while Renee Ng (Hong Kong, China/Mount Academy) and Savanna Maxon (Anchorage, AK/Alaska All-Stars) each tallied one.

Hudakova led the team in shots with six total, followed by Jordan Ferry (Bohemia, NY) with five. Tilly Wierdsma (New Hartford, CT/) led in blocks with two total and Ainsley Wescott (Saco, ME/) recorded one. Hudakova, Bell, Laitinen and Maxon led in plus minus, with each of them ending the game with a plus three. Ferry went 7-15 in the faceoff circle and Laitinen went 6-10. In goal, Audrey Milne (London, ON) recorded 14 saves for a ,933 save percentage. 

The Colonels will play their next game on the road at Neumann on Friday, January 31, with puck drop set for 7 p.m.
